BUILD BACK BETTER WITH A GREEN COVID RECOVERYWe are at a turning point in history. New Zealanders have re-elected Jacinda Ardern’s Labour-led Government in a historic landslide of support for their handling of the Covid-19 crisis. Seven out of 10 New Zealanders want a green recovery from Covid-19. And the election outcome shows a huge public mandate for transformational change. The Labour-led Government has already committed to inject billions of dollars into the economy to keep it afloat. This is a huge opportunity to build back better - to restore nature, to bring our climate emissions down quickly and to make society fairer.
There is no shortage of good ideas. And there has never been more money on the table to do exactly this work. The government must use the Covid Recovery Fund to invest in clean transformative industries like renewable energy, regenerative farming and electric transport. Now is our chance to set in place a greener, healthier and more resilient economy that puts people and planet first. Let's use the opportunity to come through this public health crisis better able to respond to the ongoing climate, biodiversity and inequality crises we face.
