Ban Seabed Mining
Seabed mining is a new threat to the oceans. Now is our chance to prevent the destruction before it’s too late.
So far, environmentalists, iwi and community groups have stopped the first large-scale seabed mine from getting underway here in Aotearoa.
But the Luxon Government supports new mining. The floodgates could soon open. Right now, Trans Tasman Resources is taking its application to mine the seabed off the Taranaki Coast back to the Environment Protection Authority.
What happens in Taranaki will set a precedent. It could determine the success or failure of this new mining industry here in Aotearoa and the rest of the Pacific and the world.
We can still stop them before they start.
Many of our Pacific neighbours are calling for a moratorium to protect their waters from this industry. The New Zealand Government must reject seabed mining. It should join countries like Vanuatu and Fiji. They are fighting to stop this harmful industry and protect the ocean.
