Make cameras on boats footage public
Cameras on boats work. Our eyes at sea, they help keep the fishing industry accountable.
The footage must be made publicly accessible. It can’t be held and hidden by the commercial fishing industry.
Since cameras were installed on the first 127 boats, reports of dolphin captures have increased by 680%. Albatross interactions and fish dumping have increased massively too.
It's clear cameras make the fishing industry more honest about the true cost of fishing, which is why they’re essential.
But everyone should have access to this information - not just the fishing industry.
Call on Prime Minister Christopher Luxon to ensure the footage is not owned by industry and is readily available to the public! |
