Keep corporate sponsors like Coca-Cola out of international climate talks
The climate crisis is causing irreversible damage to the planet, loss of homelands, cultures and ecosystems. Communities around the world that have contributed the very least to climate change are paying the highest price – with their lives and livelihoods.
It is driven by a relatively small number of big polluters and they have known for decades that their deadly products would threaten Earth’s life support systems. They have denied the truth, resisted and delayed regulation and fought to weaken any rules that have come anywhere near threatening their profits.
Right now, the critical COP27 climate talks in November, are being sponsored by Coca-Cola, the world’s worst plastic polluter.
Coca-Cola produces 120 billion throwaway plastic bottles a year – and 99% of plastics are made from fossil fuels, worsening both the plastic and climate crisis. Coca-Cola has yet to even acknowledge that this is a problem or explain how they will meet their climate goals without ending their plastic addiction. This partnership undermines the very objective of the event it seeks to sponsor.
Major polluters must not be allowed to greenwash their dirty images or buy their way out of culpability for a crisis they have caused.
Greenpeace supports the call for COPs to be FREED from corporate influence, especially from the world’s top polluters, including Coca-Cola.
