Support a strong Global Plastics Treaty

We all deserve a world free of plastic pollution.

Plastic pollution created by the oil industry and big corporations like Coca Cola is now found in the deepest oceans and on the highest mountains. It’s in our food, it’s in our bodies and it’s killing wildlife.

To tackle this global crisis, we need a global solution that matches the scale of the plastic problem.

The United Nations has a mandate to open negotiations for a legally binding treaty to end plastic pollution. Greenpeace Aotearoa is calling on the NZ Government to continue advocating for the strongest possible Global Plastics Treaty.

A strong treaty on plastic would mean:

  • Creating a legally binding instrument to ensure compliance from governments and industry;

  • Keeping oil and gas in the ground, and protecting our climate;

  • Compelling big brands like Coca Cola to switch to refill and reuse systems and reduce single-use plastic pollution;

  • Holding countries accountable for managing their own waste and ending waste colonialism; and

  • Governments working to ensure a just transition for workers and the health of the most affected communities.
