Imagine a future where the ocean thrives. Where endangered species have been brought back from the brink, and families can catch a feed. We’ve got a vision for a healthy, vibrant ocean. But to make it a reality, we’ve got to act now to protect it. Destructive fishing techniques like bottom trawling must be banned on seamounts, and cameras installed on the full commercial fishing fleet, to protect ocean wildlife like seabirds, dolphins and seals.
Aotearoa has led the world on ocean protection before, and now it’s time to do it again.
We must commit to protecting a third of the world’s international waters, creating a network of ocean sanctuaries that’ll boost fish populations and protect all the amazing species that find a home there.
The ocean is our life-support system - feeding a billion people worldwide, stabilising the climate and providing every second breath we take. It’s time we treated the ocean like it matters.
