Stop the War on Nature |
The vast majority of New Zealanders care deeply about protecting nature. In facing the urgent threats to nature and the climate the actions we take today are crucial. But the Luxon Government has introduced what could be the single worst law ever passed for the environment. The new ‘Fast-track Approvals Bill’ would give just three Ministers the power to approve or deny development projects. They would avoid the usual checks and balances that are in place to protect rivers, land, the ocean, and communities. It would sideline experts, and the people and communities impacted. That’s you, and all of us who care for rivers, oceans, clean air and native wildlife. This Bill would take a chainsaw to environmental law and allow corporations to bypass usual democratic processes. The new law could open the door to mining on conservation land and industrial waste-to-energy incineration. It could allow new damming and diverting rivers for irrigation and mega-dairy expansions. It could allow the mining of the seabed and even new coal mines! Placing unfettered powers to approve projects in the hands of just three politicians opens the door to corruption. To give feedback on this proposed new law we've created this simple online form to make it easy to make an official submission. Join us in standing up against this environmentally destructive Bill. You can also make a submission here via the EPA website. |
